Downtown Troy comes alive on Father’s Day weekend for the 7th Annual River Street Festival on Saturday, June 19th, 2010. Art, artisan craft vendors, music, antiques, food and children’s activities make for a jammed packed day of fun in our historic downtown.
MUSIC
Three Stages will fill Downtown Troy with live music to delight one and all. Headlining the main stage is national recording artist and Grammy award winning singer songwriter Paula Cole. Cole is behind such hits as ‘ Where Have All the Cowboys Gone’ and ‘I Don’t Want to Wait’, she will be releasing her newest album, ‘Ithaca’ in 2010-05-27
This years second Stage, at the South end of River Street has been dubbed our ‘World Stage’ with music representing styles from around the globe. At the festival’s North end, a stage featuring children’s music and performers will round out the day.
ART
At its heart, the River Street Festival is an Arts Festival! This year we will be welcoming almost 100 vendors from around the region, offering fine art, jewelry, clothing, sculpture, graphic fine art, photography, antiques and so much more.
Back again, and bigger than ever, the Art Center of the Capital Region will present the 2010 River Street Painting Competition. If you've never been street painting before, it's time to try this new kind of canvas! Transform Troy's sidewalks into works of art.
Compete for art supplies, gifts and $1000 in cash prizes, awarded by a committee of judges and by People's Choice Awards. Prize categories include: Adult, Grades 9-12, Grades 6-8, and Grades 1-5. Registrations are now being accepted. Spaces are extremely limited and cost $15 per person.
