VISIT TROY HOMEPAGE

Downtown Troy comes alive on Father’s Day weekend for the 7th Annual River Street Festival on Saturday, June 18th, 2011. Art, artisan craft vendors, music, antiques, food and children’s activities make for a jammed packed day of fun in our historic downtown.

MUSIC
Three Stages will fill Downtown Troy with live music to delight one and all.

Headlining the main stage is super cool rockers Los Straitjackets. With a sound that combines the classic strumming of 1960s surf music---reminiscent of Dick Dale's guitar work---with the element of punk, Los Straitjackets have carved a successful niche for themselves in the world of alternative rock. Comprised of Eddie Angel and Danny Amis on guitars, Pete Curry on bass, and Jimmy Lester on drums, the instrumental band has performed original as well as classic tunes, while always focusing on pop culture and fun. Their trademark Mexican wrestling masks, matching clothes, and custom-made matching guitars have made them one of the more visually exciting bands to see in live performance.

This year’s second stage is our local stage featuring musical entertainment throughout the day from local bands you know and love. At the festival’s North end, a stage featuring children’s music and performers  will round out the day.

ART
At its heart, the River Street Festival is an Arts Festival! This year we will be welcoming almost 100 vendors from around the region, offering fine art, jewelry, clothing, sculpture, graphic fine art, photography, antiques and so much more.

Back again, and bigger than ever, the Art Center of the Capital Region will present the 2011 River Street Painting Competition. If you've never been street painting before, it's time to try this new kind of canvas!  Transform Troy's sidewalks into works of art.

Compete for art supplies, gifts and $1000 in cash prizes, awarded by a committee of judges and by People's Choice Awards.  Prize categories include: Adult, Grades 9-12, Grades 6-8, and Grades 1-5. Registrations are now being accepted.  Spaces are extremely limited and cost $15 per person.

Check out www.artscenteronline.org for more information and a registration form.
